Android on OpenWrt: another update

Hi hackers,
my Android port for OpenWrt has now been updated to Android 1.5. The issue with browser crashing on https is also fixed. While making the full system work will still take some more effort, I do think that I’m getting closer to making it usable. You can get my stuff on the URL that I mentioned in my last post. If anybody wants to help, feel free to contact me via IRC on freenode (nick: nbd)
Enjoy!

Status update: Android on OpenWrt

Here’s a quick update on my progress with getting Android running as a set of packages on top of OpenWrt:

The GUI is running, some applications work, but there are still some limitations:

If you want to play with it, add this line to your OpenWrt feeds.conf and install all packages from it:

src-git borg git://nbd.name/borg.git

The target source for the emulator is here, you can check it out and throw it into target/linux/:

git://nbd.name/goldfish.git

And if you’re wondering about the name ‘Borg’ – I’m assimilating the Android ;)

OpenWrt on FOSDEM ‘09

I'm going to FOSDEM, the Free and Open Source Software Developers' European Meeting

Yes, a few OpenWrt developers, including me, will be at FOSDEM.

John (blogic) and I will be doing a talk on the past, present and future of our config system ‘UCI’: http://fosdem.org/2009/schedule/events/emb_openwrt_uci

Update: here are the slides: http://nbd.name/openwrt-fosdem-09.pdf
Not that much content, but they might still be useful as a short overview.

Progress on ath5k

Quick update on ath5k: Finally made some progress on the transmit power issue with newer RF designs of Atheros 11a/b/g hardware.

With my patches, I’m finally able to transmit at 54 Mbit with decent, but not yet perfect output power on an AR5413 card. Together with Nick (mickflemm) we’ll finish the rest of the TPC (Transmit Power Control) stuff very soon.

After that I can finally start working on adding WiSoC support to this driver, which means that we’ll be able to replace MadWiFi for some setups on small devices like La Fonera as well.

If you want to help us testing this stuff, please apply ath5k related patches from https://svn.openwrt.org/openwrt/trunk/package/mac80211/patches to a recent wireless-testing version.

Hello, world!

It seems that I have a blog now, so I guess I’ll put up some content soon ;)

I’ll be posting some random bits of information about projects that I’m working on, mostly related to OpenWrt and/or Linux Wireless.
